How to Deal with Negative Comments on Your Channel

So as a new Asian Beauty Guru, you will come across alot of comments that are very negative to how you would like to present yourself in your videos. I don't really take these comments as offensive, but more so of a question mark? Like why are you still on my channel watching them. From time to time, I would like to take constructive criticism and sometimes I think the comments have a good point. I recently started a new video series on giving advice to other beauty gurus on how to grow their channel when they do not have a ton of subscribers. These type of videos are structured the way they are because I find it unique to show a portion of the camera while I'm behind the camera talking towards the mirror. Is this strange, it's absolutely strange and not normal to not be in front of a camera. But I have my reasons. Do you want to make videos where the setup look just like everyone else's ? Or do you want to make controversial videos that look so awkward, but it differentiate yourself from other youtubers? Seriously how big is the beauty community on Youtube? Answer that :). Today I started to talk to myself and talk about new subjects that I would like to educate others in my 2 minutes with Wendiness Series. Yes, I indeed talked to myself for awhile. I was pretending to talk to other youtubers in my living room on topics that I am really passionate about.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make as a Youtuber is do what other people are telling you to do in your videos. I say this because you shouldn't have to change your whole channel setup for anyone, you shouldn't have to do videos differently because someone else did not like how they were done or what you were actually talking about.

If you want to make a new tag video about " what in the world is in my couch ," just do it ! I know it's not normal, I know most beauty gurus don't like these type of videos, and they think it's stupid. But people thought that for me to teach makeup tutorials on youtube was stupid. I am by no means a makeup artist and may never be a professional makeup artist. I like putting makeup on myself, and I like to show people what I can do so they can take my advice and go home and do it for themselves.

These little video series is something I am passionate about, if someone doesn't like them, I will not change for that one person. The more you become popular on Youtube, the more negative comments you will get. My first two months, I got a comment that said your channel sucks ! I actually thought it was funny. And then I get this comment saying they don't like my camera in the mirror thing and why I was looking in the mirror constantly. Well that's your opinion, and maybe it's because people don't like them so much that they clicked on it just to see what it was about.

Don't let people dictate on what you should put out on your channel and how you should change in your videos to something of their liking. At the end of the day, this is your video, and I am comfortable with this setup, I find it unique and awkward, but that's exactly what other people are thinking when they see this thumbnail, like is she really talking to a mirror ? What a loser ! But whether someone clicked on your video because they want to hear what you are saying or because it looks like you are talking to the camera like a psycho, it got them to your channel !

When Michelle Phan made the Lady Gaga video that got her instant success, did everyone liked it? NO! I'm sure people were thinking is this an Asian LADY GAGA??? When Jenna Marbles decided to trick people to thinking she was hot, is she thinking what others might think or say about how ugly she really is ?? But it worked ! When GoldPinkstah made her comical makeup tutorials and use very inappropriate languages in her videos, did people respond well ?? No they called her all kinds of nasty comments about her being fat and ugly and making the beauty community look bad etc.

So what is the point of all this? The point is people are going to hate and they are going to have their personal opinions about your videos and you will end up receiving alot of negative comments, you have to just read them and move on. Don't go deleting your negative comments, or responding to negativity, comments help your channel grow. Sometimes the more comments you have, the more rank you will have on Youtube for Discussions.

Always remember, a person cannot be successful without tons of people trying to sabotage your efforts, I think I will put that on my Facebook now.

Asian Beauty Guru Channels on Youtube 2014

Hey guys, so by now if you have stumbled upon on some sort of social media platform or on Youtube or even this blog I am writing right now, you may have already heard of me or seen me somewhere or the other.

I have been very active in promoting myself as the new asian beauty guru on Youtube. I am new because anyone that has 5,000 subscribers or less and only on Youtube in their first year would be considered a newbie. I however do not have 5,000 subscribers yet, and have only been on Youtube since September of 2013.

A little about why you should subscribe to my channel. I am listing a few reasons as to why you should consider my channel because I get a lot of people emailing me asking me to checkout their videos, subscribe to their channel and they will sub back etc. But nobody has ever given me any solid reasons why I should. I'd assume that you are probably looking for why do I need to click on your video and go subscribe to you when I have 1,000 more places and things I could be doing today.

So let me give you a list of reasons :

1) I provide High Quality HD filming in my videos, every shot is precise, every cut is planned. In this day and age, the videos on Youtube will consistently get better and better, it's just a matter of time, I guess I am starting my channel out and planning for the future.

2) I'm assuming if you looked up asian beauty guru channels, you are looking for someone who's Asian, and yes I'm full Asian, actually Chinese. My eyes are monolid, but it doesn't limit my ability to teach normal tutorials for other people who are not monolids. My techniques are not catered to any particular race, or eye style, because even if you find someone that look just like you on Youtube, chances are your makeup will still come out different when you try it at home. I am no exception, which means even if you are American, you can still use my techniques on yourself.

3) I keep all my tutorials under 3 minutes, occasionally I might go to 4 minutes if I have an interesting intro or back story to my plot. One of my recent videos, i did a little animation to tell the story of the character I am portraying, this is to keep the audience informed of what I am about to do with this look and why. Sure you are thinking just get to the point, well yes I can put up a 1 minute tutorial and go over it in lightning speed, and then at the end display "SUBSCRIBE ", but this isn't interesting or appealing is it? So I try to bring some other elements to my tutorials.

4) I am going to be doing new things on my channel, which means I won't have the same tags you guys have already seen on Youtube, I have a lot of new ideas that I want to bring to my channel and to separate myself from everyone else who is on Youtube. I want to create my own tags, my own kind of LookBooks, my own kind of reviews. Being that I love film and cinematic stuff, I probably would always incorporate what I can do with my camera and shooting into what I'm doing on Youtube.

5) Last thing, if you are someone who is looking for me to checkout your channel, the best way is to comment on my channel and ask me to subscribe to you. Tell me you have stumbled upon me by reading a blog on the internet, or twitter, or instagram whatever. I always look at everyone's videos and always subscribe back. I am a nice person ! If you want to help me grow my channel, I will certainly do the same for you :).

I hope at this point, you are convinced to click on one of my videos and check me out. I promise to bring the next new big thing on my makeup channel, in a year I hope to be noticed in the Youtube community. I also offer advice on this blog, so you are welcome to read all of them as you like. Hope to see you soon on my channel, don't be afraid to say hi and also checkout my social media links in my Youtube profile to contact me :)!

How to Become a Beauty Guru ?

At this point, considering that you believe you have some sort of makeup skills, and a good tutorial planned you would like to teach someone on Youtube, the very first thing you should do is to connect with other youtubers and gain their loyal support to your channel. I myself like to support other youtubers on their journey to success, so if you would like to subscribe to my channel, I usually always subscribe back. And you are welcome to make your first official established connection with someone like me because I actually watch my subscriber's videos when they upload them.

Establishing a communication with other youtubers and making friends and comments may be the number one and most important step of your success in being a Youtube Beauty Guru. Above all things, even above in making good videos is making good connections or friends on the platform you are using to promote. This means basically if you are promoting on Youtube, you make youtube friends, if you are promoting on Instagram, you make instagram friends, and Twitter friends, and Tumblr friends, you get the point.

Where ever you decide to use as your place to advertise, promote your channel, you need to support others who are on that platform. So if you are the type of person that is on Instagram only following 20 people, while you yourself have 2,000 followers, JUST DON"T DO IT ! I see so many people do this kind of thing on instagram where once they get enough followers, they decide to unfollow everyone they don't know personally and leaving a handful of people to follow such as friends or families.

Here's the thing, no matter where you are, twitter, tumblr, or instagram, you need to actively engage in the activities of your followers. So if you only want to follow beauty gurus on those platforms, FINE ! However, once you follow them, you still need to favorite their tweets, like their pictures or reblog their tumblr posts. These are all important in letting them know that hey you are not just a ghost follower and you are actually really interested in their posts. This in turn will prove to them that you are somebody they should check out and support.

The above video is a makeup tutorial that I did for Valentine's Day, nothing special, but without my active followers and subscribers, nobody would have found this video and watched it. But because I always support my subscribers, they in return come checkout my channel when I post an update on twitter, instagram , Facebook etc.

Do you know how many other people beauty guru's follow? They follow as much as hundred and even thousands depending on their level of promotion. Some beauty gurus are always subscribing to new channels everyday, asking everyone to come checkout their channel and subscribe to them. I would say about 30 people out of the 100 that is subscribed to you are actually interested in you in particular instead of just trying to promote themselves. That percentage maybe even lower today. I think the majority of your subscribers will be the ones that are trying to do " sub for sub" kind of thing with you, and maybe 30% or less of them actually want to come back and visit your channel as you upload new materials.

So this maybe the biggest advice I have in being successful is go out and make connections, and friends. If you see a fellow youtuber that has more subscribers than you, don't be intimidated, if they are in the range of 1,000-5,000, there's still hope, you can still contact them and get a decent response. But don't go on their channel and say things like "omg I just found your channel, love it, I subbed, can you checkout my channel too." This sounds nice and all, but do you have any idea how many people do this everyday ?

For me, I don't really care whether they say something decent and constructive or just flat out want me to sub to their channel. As long as they found me, it's easy for me to open a dialog with them and further a friendship if possible. When I say friendship, I don't mean like get their phone number and fly to their town and help them move furniture. NO! I meant like do something that is useful to them, help them promote their channel, they will in return help you promote yours. When I comment on people's channels, I almost always hit share on google, and also like their video. I do this because this allows their video come on to my subscriber's newsfeed and my subscribers can see who I have subscribed to and liked.

So at this point you are probably thinking well why da heck I want my subscribers to go checkout other people instead of me. Well whether you like it or not, your subscribers who are subscribed to you will find other people to subscribe to especially those looking for sub for subs. Don't worry, the world is a big place, there are many many youtubers out there.

A good rule of thumb is that only subscribe to people that are within your level of subscriber status. If you have 100 subscribers, either subscribe to people 100 or less or no more than 2,000 or more. Somewhere between 100-2,000 is a good starting point. Chances are, people who are in the 2,000 subscribers point is still looking for other youtubers to support them which means you still have a chance in establishing a connection or make a new friendship with them.

I have talked to several youtubers within the 5,000 range, and I myself have less than 200 subscribers. The best way to contact youtubers is through twitter. Most people are too busy tweeting stuff on their own and they don't really care about contacting others on twitter. This is where you come in, because on Youtube there's too many people sending that beauty guru a email or commenting on their video, but on twitter it's different. If someone has say 5,000 subscribers on Youtube, they may not even have half of that in twitter, so it's easy for you to send them a message.

The bottom line is, subscribe to that person on Youtube and comment and like on Youtube, but make a deeper connection through other social media networks, and the next time you have something to upload, that person where you talked to more than once will most likely watch you.

I hope that this blog will help you guys in becoming future successful beauty gurus. Remember if you work hard at something, eventually it will payoff. Most people quit before they see any success and that's the sad truth.

I will leave my social media links below, if any of you guys would like to follow me or contact me further for questions. Who knows, I might be making it big on Youtube by the time you have seen this post. Good Luck to you !

I am a Asian Beauty Guru and You Found me, So what's Next?

So a lot of times beauty gurus on youtube tend to think that just because someone has found your channel and subscribed to you, and that suddenly your 1,000th subscriber means that you are going to get over 1,000 views for sure from now on. Sadly, this is sooooo not the case when it comes to being a successful youtube guru on youtube.

Actually you are going to have to continue to connect to those who are subscribed to you over time. Yes, yes Michelle Phan got 200,000 views over night, but honestly how many Michelle Phan's are out there. When she started, she was setting a new trend, a new way to express putting on makeup. She made all these beautiful tutorials with high quality filming and editing and I would say at the time, she was best in her in field. The video above is not Michelle Phan, and this blog won't be about Michelle Phan, it's about me ...Wendiness, and yes that is my channel name on Youtube.

Basically I am a up and coming Youtuber trying to make it to the top over thousands and thousands of people that are just like me. Well what sets me different from other people? Not much, I'm just your average person walking the earth from time to time, and my makeup skills are not something you haven't seen already. What I like to believe that sets me apart is I'm constantly trying to map out new ideas on Youtube, random things, and changing the way I present myself on my channel. In the video above, I incorporated some other ideas on how I would like to tell my makeup stories. Basically anyone is capable of showing you how to apply makeup, but what sets you different is how you present your ideas in the videos.

I take several hours in editing my tutorials, I dress up, I create cartoons, I create stories and plots, and buy little things for my backgrounds and backdrops. I know some of you might think well so does everyone else, so what's the big deal ? Well there isn't a big deal, but if you see that Michelle Phan has made it by doing the same thing she does in her video, week after, and year after year, maybe you should too ! Just food for thought, if you can't beat them, why not join them right? I do cinematic tutorials on Youtube, and I like to tell stories before I get into the makeup, and I like to go over the top in my editing and scene setting.

My biggest advice to people is that don't just put out any kind of video because other people are doing it on Youtube, or your friends are tagging you in it, or you just feel like reviewing this brush that has no real value. Understand when people come to your channel, they are only likely to watch one video, and maybe 15 seconds of that one video they decide to click on, make sure that video is the best you have to offer. It's like a commercial, you are either going to be so hooked and want to buy that product, or you are going to say, no it's not for me and I never want to see this commercial again!

I know most people will be like blah blah you have no subscribers, what do you know about getting views and making it big on Youtube. I have to tell you it's BECAUSE I don't have many subscribers, and it's because I don't have many views that I am making this blog, and I'm writing these advices to let you know that if you don't change your strategy, you won't go far. It took me nearly 4 months to get to 150 subscribers, and in the first 2 months I had like no subscribers. But the reason it has changed around for me in the last 2 months is because I decided to reach out to people, and make friends and check out  other youtubers' channels.

If you think that you will make it on Youtube without having to support others and checking out other people and commenting and liking other people's work, you are going in for a rude awakening. Just letting you know truthfully that when you first start out, you have to be very friendly and an active supporter in all social media networks plus Youtube.

If you are acting selfish and only expect other people to subscribe to you, follow you, like your videos, then you will be someone who is always going to fail at getting to the top. Why start a youtube channel, if no one is willing to support you and come watch your videos. It doesn't matter how beautiful you are, or what you can offer the world, if no one really likes you or care about what you have to come out with in the next video, you are going to lose out on so many subscribers.

I'm sure in your head, you're like I don't care about subscribers, and I don't care about views, then what da heck are you on Youtube for making tutorials ??? Anyways I really don't want to get into why some of you don't really care about growing your channel, but for those of you who do care about growing your channel, please follow what I'm telling you. You won't get anywhere without support and connections. Go out there and collaborate with people, talk to people, send messages, for GOD sakes I'm not asking you to cold call anyone, all you are doing is just sending a message through social media, how hard is that? The worst that could happen is that person thinks you are rude or annoying and tell you please don't spam my page. I on the other hand, I don't mind spamming comments like hey come check me out. This saves me so much time from having to hunt you down and ask you to come check me out, so if you are willing to spam me, I will surely come over to check out your channel .

So lastly, if you have found this blog under new asian beauty gurus, then you must be looking for someone like me ?? hahha, or maybe not, but I hope you come check out my videos, and see if it's something you like, if not oh well i hope these advice I have for you is helpful in starting your youtube beauty guru journey. Here are my social media links below, feel free to hit me up on any of them if you have further questions. I am a big SEO expert, if you guys don't know what that is, it stands for search engine optimization :). Pretty much that is exactly what I'm doing here if you have found me on google.

New Beauty Gurus Love Spam Comments About Checking out your Channel and Subscribing

So new beauty gurus such as myself and my fellow circle of new beauty gurus on Youtube who are trying to grow our channels, we love receiving comments from other youtubers about " hey come checkout my channel, and I'll subscribe if you subscribe."

Most people on youtube would ignore these comments and probably wouldn't even go checkout these videos. Me , on the other hand, I'm like sure I'll come check you guys out. Why do I do this? Well this is so much easier than me sending out thousands of comments or emails to other youtubers and begging them to come watch my videos, I can just go over their channel because I was INVITED TO and at the same time say, " HEY I"M HERE, check out my videos as well back !

So with that said, if you are really good at promoting yourself and marketing your channel, then you should might as well allow these spamming comments on your video, and also go check these youtubers out, and make a connection, and make a friend !

With that thought in mind, please if you have a youtube channel that you want me to look at, just come over and spam my video so I can find you easier and we can be youtube friends and help each other in promoting!
